PoE2 0.5.0b Hotfix — Full Patch Notes & Performance Analysis

May 31, 2026 · Covering 0.5.0b Hotfix 1 + Hotfix 2

GGG shipped two hotfixes (0.5.0b) over the launch weekend, addressing the most critical crashes, progression blockers, and balance issues from the Return of the Ancients release. Here is the full breakdown of what changed, what got better, and what performance issues are still affecting players.

0.5.0b Overview

Release date: May 30, 2026 (Hotfix 1) + May 31 (Hotfix 2). Size: ~200 MB each. The hotfixes targeted three areas:

  • Crash fixes — Client crashes (including Japanese client), "Buffer overflow" crash, instance crashes on Leylines zones
  • Performance — Boss VFX preloading (fixes stutter when entering boss arenas), audio MTX restart after alt-tab
  • Progression & balance — Waystone sustain improvements, Martial Artist buffs, Kelaris Deception damage cap

Performance Improvements in 0.5.0b

✅ Boss VFX preloading. The most impactful performance fix in 0.5.0b. Previously, boss arena visual effects (Arbiter of Ash, Xesht, the new Runes of Aldur bosses) were loaded on-demand when you entered the arena, causing a hard stutter spike. Now they preload during zone transitions. Players with NVMe SSDs report nearly seamless boss entries post-patch.

✅ General client crash fixed. Several crash-to-desktop scenarios from 0.5.0 launch (particularly in party play and on the Japanese client) are resolved.

❌ Network-spike stutter near monster packs — NOT fixed. The #1 player complaint post-0.5.0b: FPS looks fine in the F1 overlay, but characters "stutter-walk" when near monster packs. This appears to be a server-side congestion issue from the 400K+ concurrent players, not a client rendering bug. See fix #11 in our stuttering guide for workarounds.

❌ Dynamic Culling behavior — NOT addressed. GGG has not modified the Dynamic Culling system in 0.5.0b. The recommendation to disable it (Settings → Graphics → Dynamic Culling → OFF) still applies.

Full Bug Fix List

Crash Fixes (Hotfix 1)

  • Fixed a general client crash occurring in various scenarios
  • Fixed a client crash on Japanese clients (localization-specific)
  • Fixed "Buffer overflow" crash when taking items from NPCs
  • Fixed instance crash when transitioning between areas with active Leylines

Atlas & Progression (Hotfix 1 + 2)

  • Ocean maps no longer unreachable due to missing map connections
  • Final Atlas Passive Tree skills now allocable
  • Hilda Atlas Master quest now updates properly after client restart
  • Present-Day Temples generate correctly
  • Waystone sustain improved for higher-tier maps — Atlas Passive Tree bonuses added. This is a significant QoL fix for players stuck at T13-T15
  • Abyss quest progression fixed (blocked markers now trigger properly)

Combat & Balance (Hotfix 1 + 2)

  • Martial Artist's Martial Master passive now generates combo correctly — this is a meaningful buff after initial reports of the skill not working
  • Killing Palm and Staggering Palm dashes now hit targets reliably
  • Channelled skill move-speed penalty no longer bypassable by tapping
  • Kelaris Deception damage bonus capped at 300% more damage (was uncapped — exploitable)
  • Pyromantic Pact now works inside boss arenas
  • Lunar Blessing cooldown recovers while buff is active

Items & Crafting (Hotfix 1)

  • Olroth's Conviction now requires proper level and isn't available from remnant crafting
  • Fragments of the Past and Conductive Runes usable while shapeshifted
  • Perfect Exalted Orb Runeshape Combination in correct crafting category
  • Breach Tablet modifiers display properly

Player Count Context

The launch weekend peaked at ~407,739 concurrent players on Steam alone (total cross-platform likely 500K+). This massive spike caused gateway congestion — particularly on California, Frankfurt, and Singapore servers — which is the root cause of the network-spike stutter that 0.5.0b didn't fully resolve. As the player count stabilizes in week 2, this should improve naturally.

What to Expect in 0.5.0c or 0.6.0

  • GGG has acknowledged the Dynamic Culling complaints but hasn't committed to changes yet
  • Network stutter near monsters is likely server-side and may require infrastructure upgrades
  • Further balance adjustments to the new Spirit Walker and Martial Artist ascendancies are expected
  • Path of Exile 2 1.0 full release is still targeted for late 2026
