1.0 Launch — December 11, 2026

PoE2 1.0 Full Release on December 11 — What We Know & How to Prep Your PC

September 10, 2026 · Updated with Gamescom reveals and registration details

Grinding Gear Games has confirmed it: Path of Exile 2 fully releases as a free-to-play action RPG on December 11 (PST). The announcement came at Gamescom's Opening Night Live in Cologne, alongside the reveal of the Duelist — the long-awaited class joining at 1.0 — and a new weapon type: swords. After nearly two years of Early Access, this is the transition to 1.0, and it will be the biggest performance event this game has ever had. Here's everything announced so far and a concrete preparation checklist for your PC.

TL;DR: Register at pathofexile2.com/register before December 10 for milestone rewards, learn the reworked Trial of Chaos in the Forbidden Rites event, and follow the prep checklist below so launch day runs smooth.

What's Confirmed for 1.0

  • Release date: December 11, 2026 (PST), fully free-to-play — Early Access ends
  • New class: the Duelist, playable at launch
  • New weapon type: swords, with dedicated skill trees (Gamescom hands-on demos showed spin-to-win style melee archetypes)
  • Registration rewards: sign up at pathofexile2.com/register before December 10 — community milestones unlock cosmetics for everyone, and you need to confirm your email after signing up
  • Console parity: 1.0 ships on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox simultaneously

Not yet confirmed: the full 1.0 patch notes, campaign additions, the endgame structure changes, and system requirement changes. GGG's usual pattern is a big reveal + patch notes 1–2 weeks before launch. We'll update this guide as details land.

What Early Access Taught Us About Launch Days

The 0.5.0 launch in May was the stress test: 400K+ concurrent players, and with them came a predictable set of problems. Every one of them will happen again on December 11, at larger scale:

  • Server-side stutter-walking near monster packs during the first 48–72 hours — not fixable locally, only survivable
  • Massive shader compilation hitches as the new content invalidates old caches
  • Manifest/download server congestion during patching hour
  • Launch-day hotfix cycles (0.5.0 got two within 48 hours) — expect the same cadence

The good news: every fix we documented through Early Access still applies. The checklist below front-loads all of it.

PC Preparation Checklist for December 11

1. Clean install your GPU driver the week before

Both Nvidia and AMD will ship Game Ready / Adrenalin drivers timed to the 1.0 launch. Don't install the launch-morning release blindly — wait for the first 24-hour community feedback cycle, then do a clean install (DDU if you've had driver issues before). Our driver settings guide covers the optimal Control Panel configuration for PoE2 specifically.

2. Regenerate your config from scratch

1.0 will likely change rendering internals — Early Access patches already invalidated settings twice. On launch day, don't carry over a months-old production_Config.ini. Regenerate it with the Config Generator for your GPU, then apply patch-specific tweaks as they're confirmed. If 1.0 ships engine changes, expect a fresh round of DX12 vs Vulkan benchmarking — the winner has flipped between patches before.

3. Free up SSD space now

Early Access installs have grown patch over patch, and 1.0 will add the Duelist campaign content on top. Keep at least 50 GB free on your game drive before launch day. An SSD that's nearly full causes patching failures and slow asset streaming — the latter masquerades as "stutter" that no graphics setting can fix. If you're still on an HDD, this is the sign: our SSD vs HDD comparison shows load-time and stream-stutter differences that make it non-negotiable for 1.0.

4. Verify your RAM headroom

16 GB is the practical floor for PoE2 in Early Access; the RAM guide details why 32 GB is the comfortable target for endgame play with a browser and Discord open. New league launches spike memory usage harder than routine play. If you're on 16 GB, close everything else on launch day and consider the upgrade before December.

5. Preload and update your loot filter early

When the 1.0 patch notes drop, filter authors (NeverSink and others) usually update within days. Download the updated filter before launch hour, not during it — the patching rush makes every download slower. Our loot filter guide has install instructions.

6. Pick your gateway before you need it

If you experienced rubber-banding in Early Access, switching gateway fixed it more often than any in-game setting. Check your gateway before December 11 and note the alternatives — on launch day the servers will be crowded and you'll want to switch quickly if your primary degrades. See the network settings guide.

7. Windows housekeeping

The boring-but-real items: Windows Update fully applied (a pending update mid-session costs you frames), Game Mode on, hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling evaluated for your setup, and a High Performance power plan. Full walkthrough in the Windows 11 optimization guide.

Should Your Hardware Bother? (Honest Answer)

PoE2 runs acceptably on remarkably old hardware with correct settings — we've documented stable 60 FPS on a GTX 1060. But 1.0 adds a campaign's worth of new assets and effects. Realistic expectations for launch content at 1080p with optimized settings:

  • GTX 1060 / 1650 class: 45–60 FPS, medium-low settings
  • RTX 3050/3060, RX 7600 class: 60–100 FPS
  • RTX 4060/4070 class: 100–165 FPS with DLSS
  • RTX 4080/4090 class: 120–240 FPS, 4K viable

These are Early Access extrapolations, not 1.0 benchmarks — treat them as planning numbers, and we'll publish updated per-GPU guides once 1.0 is out and benchmarked.

The Smart Path: Play Forbidden Rites Now

The Forbidden Rites event is live and it's the best possible 1.0 preparation: fresh realm, reworked Trial of Chaos content that feeds into 1.0, and a low-stakes environment to re-tune your config. Register for the release, play the event, and show up to December 11 with a tested setup instead of a launch-day science project.

Ready now? Generate your launch-ready config with the PoE2 Config Generator — free, no signup, works for every GPU from GTX 1060 to RTX 4090.
